Rihanna - most stylish of 2008...Vogue is boring and predictable?..

CHRISTIES TO BE SOLD?:

Francois Pinault is which he bought in May 1998 for $1.2 billion. While all auction houses across Bonhams, Sotheby's and Christie's haven't experienced a great year, Christie's has already cut a couple of departments, shrunk others, let a few employees go and plan more reorganization for the company in January. The speculation is based on one simple fact, Christies is simply carrying way too much debt.(Alphaville)

NET-A-PORTER LAUNCHES OUTNET IN FEBRUARY:

Natalie Massenets' website Net-a-Porter is going one step further and launching the outnet in February. Think Bluefly and Overstock.com but with premier designer merchandise. Yum! Massenet is keeping details top secret but she describes theoutnet.com as a site her customers can "call their own". Theoutnet.com is due to launch in spring 2009, so save the date (Telegraph)

RIHANNA- MOST STYLISH OF 2008:

Whether you agree or not, keep it to yourself. Says the website Film.com:

We can't enough of Rihanna's risk-taking, trendsetting style. It must have been all those stylish red carpet appearances and her daring on-stage costumes full of feathers, frills and fringe. Her love of color puts Rihanna on our good side. She rocks the red carpet in bold red, purple and yellow, or keeps her look sleek in black and silver. Her funky fashion sense, trendsetting haircuts and bold, bright makeup keep us guessing, and we can't wait to see what Rihanna will do in 2009.

Did you vote? So, you can't complain.(Film.com)

CATHY HORYN THINKS VOGUE IS STALE AND PREDICTABLE:

Kind of like its editor Anna Wintour? Vogue Reader reader, Kathryn Williams of San Diego, said.
“I could make a calendar of your cover girls, and it would probably repeat year after year.” She added: “Let’s face it: Vogue is getting a bit stale. It is a pity, too — because the magazine is still much better than the others.”

and kudos to them, Vogue did choose to publish the letter. (NYTimes)

EVERYTHING YOU WANTED TO SAY ABOUT BEYONCE BUT COULD NOT ACTUALLY PUT INTO WORDS?:

Well then, let the Black Snob help you. After viewing Cadillac Records, the Black Snob launches a worth reading analysis of Beyonce in the role of Etta James. She says;
I'm not saying Beyonce needs to get in a dysfunctional relationship, be abandoned by her family, pick up a drug habit (or several drug habits), becomes completely disallusioned by fame and moved to the islands, become a conflicted Christian who went pop or go nutbar on me but the great ones give up some pain. There's really no way around it. Without the pain, you're just a more charming Mariah Carey who can actually dance. Or worse, Janet Jackson with better vocals. (Blacksnob)

ENTIRE MALLS GOING OUT OF BUSINESS:

The slowest retail holiday season in 38 years could end up dooming 2,000 to 3,000 malls by the middle of the year with an estimated 200,000 more businesses shutting down. Even those that are still around will be cutting back on store locations, shutting down stores that aren't making good sales numbers. So where will people shop? (Luxist)
